Former singer Mona causes the death of a man. She seeks to make amends by hiring his widow, Julia, as her domestic help. The film is set in Khartoum just before South Sudan gained independence in 2011. Mona, a Muslim from the north and Julia, a Christian from the south, represent the differences between the north and the south.
