A Palestinian chronicle begins in 1948. The Hammad family is a prosperous orange farmer in the city of Jaffa. After the establishment of the State of Israel, the Palestinians are forced to give up their land. The Hammad family flees to Nablus and as the film progresses towards the present day, the living space of the Palestinians has been constantly narrowed under the Israeli occupation. The political situation and the family’s experiences are entrailed. The seeds of hatred and injustice are sown already in childhood.
The rich and emotional film opens up 75 years of Palestinian history. The changes, losses and humiliations experienced by the family are reflected in the choices they make. Mohamed, Saleh and Adam Bakri from the Bakri theatre family play the men of the family in three generations. Director Cherien Dabis plays the leading female role as the mother of the family. Her character builds up the possibility of a harmonious coexistence.
